Dentistry GCSES

Hi all, I was wondering if the GCSEs I got today are considered competitive for dentistry. Please be brutally honest whether they aren’t good enough, just about would get me in or are good etc. I got 8888777776, likely to be 8888877776 after a remark.

8 - Chem, Phys, Geog, Com sci
7- Bio, Lang, Lit, Maths, RE
6- French

English language is likely to change from 7 to 8.

Any responses would be appreciated
These grades are not bad to be honest. You'd have a decent chance of getting into dentistry if you do well in your A Levels, UCAT, personal statement with work experience etc.

That said, I should emphasise that should probably try to play it a bit safe and make sure that you are applying to the right universities, with at least some of your options being in less competitive places to increase your chances of getting any offers.

Thank you for your response. What do you think of Liverpool uni? As my parents are insisting I go there as I can live at home. I won’t get any bursary if I have to live away as my dad makes a lot of money, however he insists that he can’t afford to help me out with expenses
EDIT: sorry my initial post was oriented around medicine before I realised this was for dentistry. Look at liverpools thoughts on GCSE requirements here: https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/courses/2024/dental-surgery-bds#entry-requirements

it seems like they don’t have a scoring system or anything for dentistry. But since requirments are usually similar for dent and med, would you say I’ve good a good chance at Liverpool?

For now, I can't say. GCSEs only make up part of your application. I don't know what your A level predicted grades will be like, or if you will have good work experience and personal statement, or how your UCAT will go.

Regardless of that, why even ask? You'll apply anyway, so just do that and find out if you get in. Do your best in every other part of your application from now on. You get 5 choices I think, so you can also aim for some lower universities as more "safety options".
