5 in english language want to do med

hello!, today i got a 5 in english language and want to go on and do medicine in uni i was 4 marks away from the next grade but i am scared it can go lower because of remarks. I really tried for this test and im scared if i retake it will end up in the same situation.
All my other gose results were over a 6(B) it is just that grade that is holding me back idk what to do

i did really well in everything else but it is just this that is holding me down and making me feel really bad 😔
Any advice?

Perhaps you should look into retaking the exam if you want to do Medicine at Uni, and you really need to understand the markscheme and how the examiners will mark the papers if you want a good grade in English Lang. Using advanced vocabulary really helps to gain more marks. On youtube, you can search for people doing paper walkthroughs and do the papers with them to improve.
If you don't want to retake, then I suggest moving away from doing Medicine at Uni and focus on something else that you're good at

I would definitely recommend resitting, but maybe try a remark first. It might be worth the risk if you’re already on a 5.

Hi. I was in the same position last year, I also want to do med. And I was able to retake the exam in November at my school for a small fee. It is much easier to retake in Nov rather than waiting till next summer when you're busy with Year 12 , UCAT etc. Most unis do not have a problem with GCSE resits.

With a remark, you may move up a grade to a 6. But if you want to make a really competitive application. You should try and aim for a 7. Unless you can apply for contextual. Let me know if you have any other questions because I was able to move from a 5 to 7 within a few months. Hope that helps.

hi! , this is hard for me as i do not want my parents to pay for something that might not be worth it in the end. Im moving to a different college so hopefully i could ask about potentially retaking. I have looked at unis that allow a 5 in english lang and its not too bad.
Im so stuck still because even if medicine isnt my complete dream it is clear to me that i am just better at science + maths over english. I really tried this exam and seeing those who “didn’t revise” get higher hurts more😔😔
Thank you for replying ❤️ hopefully it all works out

There are many other options that can stem from being good at science and maths, you don't just have to pick Medicine. I would recommend looking at other career paths that involve these subjects and see if any click with you!!!

Yes I completely understand. It's really difficult to come to terms with. Don't compare yourself with others and stay strong. I realise this is easier said than done. Enjoy the rest of your summer, go out with your friends and spend time with family. Evaluate what you want to do next and look forward to the future.
