Changing UCAS choices

Looking to apply to CS this year and predicted 4A*s with an achieved A* for my EPQ, I have done some work experience and am doing some preparation for the admissions test for the unis I am applying to. However my GCSE's are fairly mediocre (4A*s 4As and a B). The universities I am applying to mostly require the TMUA with the exception of the university with the lowest grade requirement and Oxford.

Should I consider not applying to such competitve unis or slot another lower choice in my application?
That depends on what your decisions would be if you got 5 rejections. Or if you got offers and then didn't meet your offer grades.

It's perfectly ok to apply to 3 universities early and then add the final 2 after Christmas when you have more information on how your studies are going and possibly even some offers.

Would consider taking a gap year and reapplying with achieved grades. Hoping this means that my gcses wont matter as gcses are used as an indication for of how one would perform at A level.

Basically - if you wouldn't consider attending a university outside your current shortlist then there's zero point adding those universities as a UCAS choice.
