Yes, It's a highly sensible move.

In the same way it'd make a lot of sense to take a car for an extended week-end long test drive before buying it.

Or you can think of it that you are married. Except that you haven't gotten the piece of paper from the government.
And you can divorce any time.

One thing to watch out for is that you have a quick, easy, safe exit strategy in the event of things not working out. And that you don't fall into the sunken cost fallacy and stay too long in the relationship because of the investments you've made in it.

Most relationships have a honeymoon period of 6 months to 2 years of living together. When that runs out, a lot of relationships fall apart. The ones that don't tend to last for over 5 years or till death do you part.

Different cultures and religions will have different views on this, but generally it's fine and a normal part of the process.
