gcses gone bad

hey guys i recently got my gcse results and found out I will not be able to do biology in my A levels. I want to do psychology in university so i was planning on doing psychology, sociology and biology for my a levels but since i cant do one of the sciences im not sure what other subject would fit. Ive been told to do english literature since i had received good grades for it but I hate the subject. Is there anything else i could do?

Is there anywhere else you can do biology? It’s an important subject for psychology
Is maths an option?
Philosophy could be a good idea, dont take English if you dont like it

I'm sorry if this upsets you, but what grade did you get that made you unable to pick biology for A-levels? I want to understand how the process works.
hope it won't be annoying to ask this.

maths isnt an option as thats the reason I am unable to do the science options and my school does not do philosophy and eithics. I was thinking about doing business as well?

i got a 4 in maths but i did good in my english literature and english language since i got a 7 in both so my teachers are recommending english based subjects but i really do hate english.

You could do business but are you sure psychology is for you as a degree? It needs maths and science skills- check the spec for a level to see if the content appeals to you and look through degree modules.

i am looking into other subjects to do at university but im not sure what goes well with the three a levels i want to do. my school does not have a great selection either. My school is also part of a consortium but those subjects are more dt and languages based (spanish etc).

If you’re still unsure about degrees and what you want to do then my best advice would be to choose subjects that you’re confident in both that you can do well and that you’ll enjoy them
For some help, this is how I chose my a levels:

1.

Write down ALL the courses your sixth form offers on a piece of paper

2.

Look at all the entry requirements and cross off ones you dont have the grades or subject for

3.

Cross out any subjects you have previously studied and dont like

4.

For any new subjects look through the spec and watch some YouTube videos to see if the subject appeals to you

This should leave you with some subjects to choose from, if you need it I can help you narrow it down from there but I suggest you do this first so you can figure out all your options

TRUST me as someone who does a level biology if you dont have the grade for it PLEASE DONT DO IT. ITS VERY HARD and your teachers arent saying this to be mean but it will help you and avoid you struggling. Biology is a difficult a level and if you didnt get the grade for it please dont do it
Kids who get 6 in gcse biology are more likely to get Ds and Es at a level
it may also be worth changing degree options
biology is a hard a level

yeah thats what i was thinking like even though i want to do biology its not the smartest idea. i can still get into university with psychology, sociology and business studies as i checked the requirements and since im doing psychology i can still get in to them but ive been told those arent a good mix of subjects but ive also been told the opposite so its just confused me.

Hey so I looked at all the universities for psychology BSC, they all accept mostly Applied Science BTEC and I think this is a really good option as it is similar to a level biology but a lot easier
My advice is do 3 a levels and a btec, it will be a bit hard but very rewarding at the end
psychology will be your hardest A level the other 3 are much more easier

if you school dont do BTEC applied science which a lot of schools do then i suggest think of another career path. I know a lot of friends who are doing psych and they did bio, psych and eng lit are the common a levels but it can vary

your opinions will change from time to time and my best advice is dont do a level biology it is very hard and not worth it if you arent pursuing medicine or dentistry

a lot of alevels got taken off as not a lot of people had chose it so its all very limited. things like film studies, french, politcs, sport, business studies and some other things i don’t remember are left. they only one that i guess i didnt mind doing was business studies.
