Do i need a laptop for mechanical engineering?

I already have a powerful enough pc that i will be bringing to my accommodation but i am wondering do i need a laptop to bring into class

No. There will be PCs in classes with CAD and other simulation software installed already.

You need a computer, a laptop is more convenient for if you want to work flexibly (this is really beneficial for if/when you do group work), you are traveling (for example back to your parents house over xmas/Easter).

So you don’t need another computer but a laptop will be easier for certain activities.

In general id say having one computer for engineering is essential, a laptop offers flexible working/studying the PC offers a better setup and is generally better suited when you use CAE/CAD however if you have a laptop the university machines will suffice.

Ultimately your financial situation & needs are personal so - if you should is also about personal balancing cost-benefit.
