Postgrad loan with pre settled status

Hello,

I am currently in the process of applying for Student Finance for a postgrad loan for the 24/25 year. I am a EU student from France, I have just graduated from a UK university, I moved to the UK in September 2020 to start my course and have a presettled status which expires at the end of 2025. While I was applying, it asked me for my permanent home addresses for the past three years and I am so confused, so I was wondering if anyone could help me.

For context: I have lived in student accom for the last four years while I was at university. After the first year (summer of 2021), I went back to France for the summer as my tenancy ended in July 2021 for the first accom and my second tenancy did not start until the start of September 2021. After that, I have lived in student accom in second, third and fourth year, but outside of term time I have moved in with my boyfriend and his parents who live in England and I have been staying with them all of the time. I have only gone back to France for holidays since September 2021, and my whole life is in the UK.

In regards to my application, it is the permanent home addresses that are confusing me. It is asking me what my permanent home addresses were from 1 September 2021 until 1 September 2024. I moved into my second student accom at the start of September 2021, but it says that we cannot use student accom as a permanent address. However, since then, I have not gone back to live with my parents in France and I have just been going back and forth between living in student accom and living with my boyfriend and his parents outside of term time. I phoned SLC earlier, who are saying that I cannot put my student residence as my permanent home address for September 2021-January 2022, and I am not sure I can put my boyfriend's address as although we have been together since September 2021, I only started staying with him and his parents outside of term time from January 2022. However, saying that my permanent home address was in France would also be wrong as I wasn't living there, and all my legal documents such as bank accounts, UKVI account, French government etc. were getting sent to my student accommodation. I also had a provisional driving license made with that address, I have an NHS and NI number, and I had a job from September 2021 until January 2022 with payslips containing my student accom address, if this is helpful. I didn't get to finish my conversation with SLC on the phone as the call somehow disconnected, and I honestly did not have the courage to be put on hold for another 50 minutes, so I started looking up online if people were in the same situation as me and I found a girl who posted on this website and was in a similar situation as mine, and she was told by SLC reps on this forum that she could put her student accommodation as her permanent home address, although it says that we can't on the SLC website which is why I am confused and in desperate need of help. The woman I had on the phone said I could not be ordinarily resident as the purpose of my visit was to study, but I thought that since I just live in England outside of term time instead of going back to France I would be considered ordinarily resident in the UK, as now the purpose of my stay is not only to study but also to live with my partner.

Should I just put my student accom address as my permanent home address for September 2021-January 2022 and then my boyfriend's address for January 2022-September 2024, should I put my boyfriend's address for the whole of September 2021 to September 2024, or should I put my parents' address in France for September 2021-January 2022 and then my boyfriend's address for January 2022-September 2024?

Any help is really appreciated, thank you so much in advance and apologies for the long post.

Jules

Hi Jules,

Based on what you've said you can use your boyfriend's address for the entire period, that will be fine.

You should then be fine to submit the application, but let us know if there are any problems.

Thanks, Graeme
