Anyone in Y12 picked Maths, Further Maths, and Econ?

I just finished Y11 and I am thinking of picking Maths, Further maths, and Econ for my A levels in sixth form. My plan is to go to uni after college and study a Econ degree or something.

Hello, I have someone in my Further Maths class who does that subject combo so that she can pursue Econ/Maths/Financial Maths at degree. Do you have any questions about it?

Yeah I was wondering if it was a good combo and if Econ is hard or not and what's it's like

This is what she said:

"it can vary for different people but I personally find econ to be an easier subject in general. its a lot of multiple choice and essay questions so I would tell them to just stay on top of the content and make sure they understand the concepts." She also said the maths isn't that hard.

How we do it at our school is that maths and further maths are in the same subject slot so she's ended up with a lot of frees. She recommended using the frees to keep on top of notes and any extra work you have but also to use the time to chill and recover when you can.

Finally:

"for the first months theyll be on top of their work a lot more so just let them know the workload gets more and they may not be able to use the frees for fun stuff as much as before but its not too different than everyone else"

I hope this helps!

I'd recommend if you were thinking about maximising your chances for offers from the top unis for econ, if you're prepared for the workload having a fourth A level is suggested as I believe some unis consider this a maths FM and one other a "narrow" selection of subjects

Would it affect my chance of getting into tip unis like Oxbridge?

Depending on your grades and everything else it's still possible but I think you'd help yourself by doing four if it's manageable - at the end of the day just do what you want to do it will work out.

i also picked business at the start, I dropped it like day 2 because it's just economics but worse. But I'm finding it nice, we haven't really started any further maths content yet but it is quite nice and the workload isn't massive yet. Econ is also quite interesting too

I'm not too sure about the subject choices, but Further Maths is an excellent choice if you want to apply to a top university. Many of them, such as Oxbridge, Imperial and UCL, will recommend that you take further mathematics. In addition to boosting your application, it lays a good foundation for your undergraduate. Since economics involves a good bit of math, your course requirements could require/suggest further mathematics. I would advise you to check university courses and their prerequisites before making a decision.
