Glasgow Caledonian optometry

I’m a bit stressed with my subject choices as my highers in s5 didn’t go as planned and I’ve been stuck on something.

The optometry entry requirements are AABBB and I’ve gotten a B last year in higher human biology and and A in another subject.

This year I’m doing math english and chemistry repeat but the thing I’ve been stuck on is the fact if I should do advanced higher biology or not. I’ve been advised by teachers on not to do it but I feel a bit paranoid because I feel like my chances in getting into optom will be low. Today I changed advanced higher biology to higher RMPS and I’ve been regretting it. What’s your opinions on this what should I do
Hello,
So essentially, Glasgow Cali doesn’t actually specify whether the Highers should be achieved in S5 or S6, meaning that as long as you meet their minimum entry requirement, you should be able to guarantee yourself at least a possible place in the course. Only thing is, they may not accept resits, so you might have to call up the university and ask them about this. I think AH biology is quite good, teachers for some reason don’t recommend this but many uni students do as it gives you helpful insight into what biology at uni level will be like. All in all, it’s really up to you, if you have a career advisor at school maybe ask them for their opinion on what you should do.

Hi,

Thanks so much for the response I asked the career advisor and she recommended me not to do it but I just wanted to make sure I have a good chance in getting in as I plan on staying in Glasgow and cali is the only uni that does optom. Hopefully I get in then.

Hey, I would just take another higher instead of AH bio, the content is v challenging and the project will take up so much of your time. I got an A in Higher and completely failed AH. I'd only take it if u think your willing to put in a lot of work into it. But if i were u I'd just focus on making a good personal statement, and getting in that work experience.

Hey,

Thanks for the advice I’m going to stick to higher rmps then and I’ll focus on getting experience done. I found the course quite confusing as I was in the class in June so I was also doubting myself but I feel better now.
