Part time job as a dentistry applicant?

Hi,

I’m going into y12 I was recently creating a table of all the things I need for my dentistry application, and well, it’s a lot. My parents have been pushing me to get a part time job, however I do not believe I will have time at all to work part time when I have so much work experience etc that I need to fit in all in one year. I plan to work part time in y13 along with my studies, as I will not have to worry about all this other stuff to help my application.

Any replies and thoughts would be appreciated.

I am about to go into year 13 and honestly I think if you have to get a job year 12 is better as its more relaxed and you dont have exams determining if u get into uni the content is also harder in year 13

agree with this 100%

I worked part time in y12, had to quit y13 December bc it was way too much to juggle. it's harder to work during y13 imo bc that is when you are putting together your application and once that is in, prepping for interviews and trying to manage the boatload of y13 content + responsibilities that come with being older and at the top end of school oops. this year is a lot higher stakes.
if u rlly do want to get a job (if u don't have one already lol im replying 6 months late), best time is once your y12 exams are done (bc they will determine your predicted grades!!) but I rlly recommend reducing your hours (or quit if they don't let you) before you go back to school. If you want to make working through y13 feasible, only opt to do a few hours per week. From personal experience- u should prioritise your grades and spending time with friends over breaking your back to make a few hundred quid.

On plus side, working defo gave me skills which helped me in my application (I litro had a paragraph in my PS talking about it), but don't let it take over your life. Make sure to let your manager know you are prioritising getting into dental school and put boundaries in place so they don't try and overwork you.
