Missing Maths in A level ..how it impacts for uni entry

Hi.. got my GCSC results.. secured 6 in maths .. but unable to get maths subject at a level as most schools ask for grade 7. I Selected economics , business and English language subjects at a level at good School now
I want to make my carrier in finance . Am I going to miss good university finance degree entry as I am going to miss maths in a level ? Is there any way by which I can still recover the missing a level maths subject and meet university entry criteria.?

Hi, although I didn’t look specifically into finance course application, I can assure one thing about uni application; choice of A-level subject won’t hold you back from choosing your dream uni or course.

There are uni course that can ask to get higher grades in subjects you are doing because you miss the right subject(e.g. instead of getting BBB as minimum requirement as you do maths, you need to get AAA minimum because you don’t do maths), and also there’s unis offering foundation year for people not having right subjects or grade but is capable and willing to study with them.
Also, just I looked at UoM (one of Russell group uni so considered a good uni) finance requirements, but they seem to accept people not doing maths A-level without any problem, and I’m sure a lot of other uni do the same.
So, my advice is to take a quick look into the requirements of the finance course of uni you already considering applying to in future and check where you can apply, but I'm sure you will find a finance course you can get in so don’t worry too much!

I know there’s a lot of fear about everything after GCSEs but it will be okay! good luck with your studies!

You should not take Economics and Business - too much overlap. Many schools don't allow this - why can't you start Maths A level on a contract?

What do you mean by a contract? Thanks

We ask for a grade 7 [Maths A level] but if a student we expected to get a grade 7 gets a grade 6 then we let them start A level. They are put on a contract setting out what they need to show in the first month or so. If it goes well, they continue.

Pretty much all the top unis have Maths as an Entry Requirement for any degree involving Finance. There are unis out there that don't require it but you would have to set your sites lower. Also bear in mind that potential employers look at both your degree grade and your A levels - there are employers who may consider that not having A level Maths is a serious drawback.
