Will I be approved for part time student loan if didn't complete my first uni course

Hi, I was a student at Exeter and due to their own technical errors and miscommunications, it messed up my transcript and therefore eventually led to withdrawal without either party formally suggesting nor confirming withdrawal. I took up full time work and now it's been a few years since the whole debacle and I'd like to start my education journey again with the OU. I never completed my degree, and I know the eligibility for student finance is if this is my first degree - but they also say if this is your first higher-education course you studied. So I'm slightly confused and wondered if anyone can shed some light on if they think I'll be able to claim student finance after already being at university but not completing (for a part-time loan). Thanks!

Hi there,

How many years of previous study do you have and was it all for a full time course? Do you hold an undergraduate degree? Can you confirm the name of the new course and how many years does the course last? Is it for the 2024/25 academic year?

Thanks, Drew

Hi - I've been approved but thanks for replying to my question. Although, I'm wanting to check if I'll be approved in future too as I don't want to start my degree and then be told I can't have funding and not continue. To answer your question though, I've had x2 years previous studies and I don't hold a degree. It is for the academic year 2024/2025 (which has been approved but I want to make sure my future eligibility too) and it's for Law (6 years part time). Thanks!

Hi appleapplepen,

We can never give a 100% guarantee that you will continue to be approved for funding in future but we would not take full time previous study into account for Open University courses so if you also do not already hold a degree you should be eligible for funding for the remainder of your course.

Thanks,
Calum
