Tesco temporary employment

My tesco temporary contract is coming to an end next month, i’m worried they’ll offer me permanent contract however i don’t want to stay there or accept a permanent place. what happens if i decline the permanent contract? do i have to still give notice or will i just never have to go in again?

No, the contract is temporary meaning that it ends at the specified time. Under this contract you're under no obligation to work further so you're free to decline the permanent contract.

Hi Lilli

Exactly what it means by temporary contract - you will either be offered a permanent position ( which you stated you don't want to continue working with Tesco once it's up) ,
You are absolutely free to reject the offer of a permanent position if you choose to do so as under no obligations to accept it.

You'll probably have a meeting with your store manager prior to your temporary contract expiring to discuss how you done during your time there and if they think 🤔 💬 💬 you are good enough to be offered a permanent job position then they will tell you then, then it is up to you to turn it down okay.

Is there any reasons why you don't want to be offered a permanent job position with Tesco....

Team leader and stand in supervisor as required with Tesco.

Thank you so much this is really helpful, if I decline the permanent contract will I just never return to work after the last day of the contract or will there be notice that has to be given. I really love the physical job, it’s more just the people and location of the store, thank you! ☺️

Hi
You are welcome 🤗

At the end of your temporary contract ( whatever the date is) then you'll no longer be a employee of Tesco but remember just work up to the end of your temporary contract and make sure you are paid for anything you are due from them okay ( that's usually the next payday you'll receive everything you are due from Tesco. ).
No notice period required as you already have a contact stating xx date unless they offer you either a permanent position or extension to your temporary contract.

Unfortunately you do get brilliant staff at majority of the Tesco stores and there's the minority who are just poor idiots to others.

Have you thought about applying for another job position in another Tesco store if there's one within your area whilst you are still employed with them as there's nothing stopping you doing this.

Yes! I’d definitely work at tescos again I really love the physical job, 99% of the people are lovely in the store I work at, however there’s one manager who’s been very persistently impatient and unfair with me with the way they act and speak to me. I have anxiety and the thought of going into work has heightened this especially when I know said manager will be working. I do have another job on the side which i kept due to tesco employment being temporary, so i’m not stuck for employment, just wanted advice on how to get out of there and what happens if they offer me permanent work. You’ve really helped me with this thank you so much for the advice! ☺️☺️☺️

Hi
Apologies for late reply 😔

I'm surprised you want to leave the job at Tesco ( if you where offered a permanent job at end of your temporary contract) if you love it so much.
I wouldn't let one understudy manager get to you if everyone else is lovely to you.
You could always ask to switch your shifts/hours to avoid working with this annoying manager as you can do that if offered permanent job....?

Hope you decide to change your mind if you get the chance of getting kept on especially with Christmas period round the corner with opportunity to working extra hours if you chose to.

Obviously I can't make you take a permanent job but would you consider it if you were given it, and then take the chance to swap your shifts around if it helps you. ... Just something to think 🤔 🤔 🤔 about okay.

There's no worries about trying to assist you ☺️ ☺️

yeah I understand that completely, i think it’s more so the anxiety that i get from that manager as they’re the main manager of the store as far as im aware, so id have to go to them to discuss shift swaps in the first place etc. the job has made me think that they wouldn’t be flexible with me changing my shift dates as they have previously been extremely strict with me changing shifts to suit my schedule. they also expect me to do 1+ overtime shifts per week and if i don’t i’m told im taking from the company and not giving back etc. therefore i think for my anxiety and overall wellbeing i’ll be happier leaving the job. i’m sure other stores may be completely different to this however for now im happy to return to my previous job and leave the job when my temporary contract ends. thank you🥰

Hi Lilli

You usually have -
You have your store manager who is responsible for the everyday running of the store.
Then there's the duty deputy manager
Then assistant managers

The manager is supposed to be as flexible as possible with helping staff if they need to reschedule shifts for other reasons 😕 😕. I had no issues with my manager with having to reschedule my contractual contract hours and days due to my main full-time employment as NHS midwife ( I worked full-time with Tesco prior to doing my degree and went part-time when I was doing it) even had to transfer stores which my manager arranged, did the same thing when I returned back to my own city. I'm about 18 years with Tesco ( both full time and part-time). I used to work as much overtime as I can when I was full-time but since I qualified as a midwife I had not done much overtime with Tesco except working a few hours extra at end of my normal shift.

I really think it's depends on how well managers get on with their staff that they are helpful with them more.

Seriously telling you to do 1+ overtime shift per week - sorry I never worked overtime right that as I always chose whether or not to work overtime which I don't do nowadays with Tesco as I can pick up a overtime shift at the hospital and earn more.

That's sounds like management blackmail staff into working so that they have there allocated numbers of staff each day. To be honest I wouldn't work under a manager who does that 😕 😕 😕.

Yes each store is completely different.

As long as you are happy that is what more important than working under stress with a manager like that, your health is more important than Tesco.

I don't blame you not wanting to take a permanent job if offered with Tesco if you are treated like that.

Look after your health first and foremost okay.

You are welcome 🤗 🤗 🤗 🥰🥰🥰

Apologies for late reply......

I'm fine thanks for asking 😊 😊 🙏 🙏
Hope you are ok as well 🙏

Every bit of experience with Tesco you have is going to be useful for any future employment with them if you decide to go back to work for them as I'm sure they will be happy to have you again.

I'm glad I'm able to try and help you with this matter 🙏 🙏 🙏
