Is tutoring worth my time?

I’m going into sixth form, but I was wondering if tutoring would be a good way to make money as I did really well in my GCSEs and honestly I also enjoy teaching and helping others. If there’s anyone in sixth form currently tutoring, any advice would be great

Hi @freshhoney !

I didn't personally do tutoring, but I have a few friends that did and I would say go for it!

I can't personally comment on the amount of money they earned, but they did earn and to be honest any money you can earn alongside your studies is a good start as it will help in the future or just give you the opportunity to give yourself a little treat every now and then.

Money aside, I think tutoring would be a great option, because it feeds into a passion you have so you are likely to enjoy it, many people are looking for tutors so it shouldn't be too hard to find work, and it will look wonderful on both your personal statement (if you are heading to university after 6th form) or just your CV in general, as it looks really impressive that you can balance both work and study and that you are knowledgeable about certain subjects enough to tutor.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions,
Gabby

Thanks for the reply! Do you know how your friends managed to get started as I’m not sure where to begin.

Hi @freshhoney !

There are many different ways you could get started, but I think the most effective way they got started was by posting in local Facebook groups what subjects you would offer and your rate and see how much interest you get.

Hope that helps,
Gabby

There’s this website called mypocketskill which is for teenagers looking to do tutoring and music coaching. I’m 16 and I’ve been using it to offer English and languages tutoring. Definitely check it out
