Struggled to see a number plate 20 meters away

Hi there, I am just on here to ask for advice,
I was practicing my number plate test for a provisional license ( this is a form of ID and can be used as a license if I wanted to learn to drive in the uk).
I took a walk with a family member and decided to practice, I was at a good distance maybe even a little closer, and I manage to see a few letters, but I failed at least 3 times to see a number plate, mistook my O’s for D’s and W’s for M’s.
I’m not sure if I should book an appointment or not. My family member said it’s easy to mistake letters on the number plate, but I had to squint.

Please tell me your advice and thank you:smile:

'In good daylight, you must be able to read a vehicle number plate from a distance of 20 metres (or from a distance of 20.5 metres for old style number plates). If you want to do your own number plate test, when walking down a street or in a car park, 20 metres is about 5 car lengths.' If you cannot fully see the plate in focus then you may need glasses. You should book an eye test to check before you attempt to drive a car.
Book an eye test. Not worth wasting the money on a driving test to fail before you even get in the car
Get an eye test

I failed a driving test because I couldn’t see the number plate

Seems like you need an eye test, I read a number plate further than 20 meters away and at an angle. Came out the door and the examiner pointed at a random car which was more than 20 meters away.

This test is easy if your vision is ok or properly corrected. Short sightedness creeps up. Make an appointment with an optician, you’ll be surprised at the difference of things being sharp again
