does playing an instrument help you get into uni?

i play the piano at grade 6 level and i want to apply for medical school at oxford. will this help at all or not. all i know is that it gives you a few extra ucas points but i dont know how helpful that is.

It’s not like super super helpful but it’s something to mention in your personal statement to add to your character and you can link it to commitment/dexterity which could be beneficial. And the extra UCAS points may be helpful for other unis you will apply to but I’m not sure if Oxford considers them. But remember unis want to see that you have some hobbies so you will integrate in uni life and not run the risk of dropping out (that’s what a Durham admissions rep told me at least). Hope that helps!!

Frankly speaking, no.

I have grade 8 distinction in piano and violin but barely mentioned it in my personal statement as these are extra-curriculars, nice to have but not essential in unis application. You can talk about it when invited to interview but no more than a sentence or two to reflect how music motivated you.
Not unless you're applying to a music degree.
