Websites for Mechanics

Hi Guys,

I’m struggling with mechanics so much, I’m literally starting Year 13 but I barely understood Year 12 content, I still don’t get it till now. Yes I know that is not very good of me and definitely means I will be struggling this year, so I want to ask you, do you have any tricks/tips and like websites which I could use that explain mechanics very well?

When I mean very well I mean like basics in full detail, if not then any useful websites for mechanics which you comment I will be thankful for!

Thank You!

Create an account on Isaac Physics and then practice some of the mechanics questions on there. You can use the question finder or even just use the essential physics skills book and do some questions from the AS mechanics section. Hope this helps!

Since your in year 13 you should start doing old spec past papers now. Starting from 2001 do ALL the Unit 1 papers and Unit 2. Unit 2 has mechanics and thermal physics, thermal is year 13 so ignore that section for now. start doing a paper once a week. Use your week to revise for the test. Treat it like a proper exam and sit it under exam conditions. Mark thoroughly. The good thing about doing this is that it exposes you to new scenarios AND these unit tests are relatively basic. Few of the questions tend to be hard so if your struggling its a good indicator of what you need to go through and a good sign to keep doing these tests regularly. Having done these myself I'd say they solidify your knowledge of the fundementals in mechanics. You can create an excel spreadsheet with columns for each unit and rows for each year. I did this to track my progress and its pretty motivating.

When you are revising for these unit tests, do as MANY isaac physics questions as you can on the specific sub topics you don't get. Use PMT and the textbook or revision guide if you can.

Here are some websites which have old past papers:

Good Luck!

Thank You very much!! I will definitely check these out. For the second website maybe I checked wrong but they don’t seem to do my exam board which Is Edexel, but I think using them anyways will at least help me get used to various Questions like you said
So thank you so much again, I’ll start doing this, this week.
And yes Issac physics is really going to be used a lot by me from now On

Do keep an eye on the events section on the Isaac Physics website. They often hold sessions throughout the year recapping year 12 and 13 content live with several Cambridge uni tutors. I won't say they're the best since the sessions are quite short and generally use harder examples focusing more on problem solving rather than understanding, but it can be good for a quick short recap.

I definitely will, especially as problem solving is something I lack, watching and attending those sections would be useful even if they are quite short
