Is it worth applying to Cambridge?

Hi im a year 12 student taking further maths, physics, computer science and maths a levels and want to apply for computer science and mathematics bsc. I have already done my maths a level and achieved an A* and am predicted A* (further maths), A (comp sci)and A in physics.

My mum is desperately trying to get me to apply to Cambridge, but im not sure I will get in.
Also I dont really want to because at the sixth form Im currently at, the deadline for early applicants is around 2 weeks away. I have drafted my PS but have not actually done some of the things on there, but am planning to. If I didnt apply to Cambridge, I would have time to actually do those things before sending off my application and could tweak my PS. Also I would have to revise for and take the TMUA if I applied to Cambridge which would cause me extra stress.

So I could lie to my mum and pretend I did apply to Cambridge then later I could say I just did really badly on the TMUA and fake a Cambridge rejection. Or I could apply to Cambridge and do what my mum says, but risk not being able to actually do/understand some of the things I wrote on my PS. What do you guys think I should do?

Thank you for reading my post :smile:

Excuse the harshness, but personally I think you should tell your Mum it's nothing to do with her - it's your choice where you apply for Uni because you'll be the one studying there, and you're the one who has to cope with and enjoy (or not) the modules in your course!

You have a number of possible courses of action I can see:
Apply, but *deliberately* under-perform on any entrance tests etc so you know you won't be accepted (risky if it's an entrance test like TMUA that may be used elsewhere that you do want to attend);
Tell your Mum there is insufficient time to prepare given your sixth form's timescales for application;
Tell your Mum you want to apply for a BSc and Cambridge don't offer BScs - all the degrees are BAs :smile:
Or to be as positive as possible, do A LOT of research into degrees elsewhere and convince your Mum that you have found a more "suitable" course that you prefer.

But essentially you have to cope with 3 years wherever you go (course content, location, environment, social life) so it's your decision that's important, not your parent's!

The deadline for early applicants is October 15th so the deadline at school is just for your reference.Son rewrote his PS just before October deadline .Re entrance test it is probably not going to be that much of a stretch for you.Have you looked into Cambridge yourself or have you not really thought about it.If the latter do a couple of days research on Cambridge ,the course and methods of teaching.Plenty of people do not decide to Oxbridge until this point.Also why lie on your PS just write about your interest in the subject and what you have done,read around this subject.
