Do I stand a change applying for dentistry with a ucat of 2300

I recently sat my ucat and got 2300 band 1 , and I’m wondering if it’s worth applying to a uni with this and what uni might consider me . I’m predicted As for alevel , I’m not sure if I should apply for dental hygiene and therapy instead because of my ucat ?

Not too sure as I’m in a similar boat as you, but for med,
If you still want dentistry, look at unis with a lower cut off score. And apply for dental hygiene as a 5th?

Thank you , good luck for you aswll !
I only know Cardiff and Liverpool that has a low cut off score but they usually accept like 2500 on average , I’m just scared of rejection , I don’t wanna take a gap year x

Literally in the exact same boat. I got 2400 B2 in my UCAT and I know I don’t want to take a gap year either. So I’m going to try apply strategically (Cardiff is on my list too). I think Plymouth might have lower scores too. There are definitely a few. Although I’m not sure what the chances will look like. I would suggest a website called UKCAT where they show average, lowest and highest UCAT scores accepted.

Hey thought I’d share my experience as I was in a similar boat last year! I applied for dentistry 2023 entry to Cardiff, Plymouth, QMUL and KCL. I got pre interview rejections from everywhere except Cardiff due to a lower UCAT than the cutoffs. I chose Plymouth as one of my options because I thought it was a “low ucat uni” but unfortunately was still rejected as their cutoff that year was 2650. Cardiff is a good choice as they look less at ucat and more at GCSEs which is how I managed to secure and interview. Liverpool is a good option as they have no cutoff.

If you want to do dentistry keep trying and don’t let a gap year put you off. I was rejected from Cardiff post interview in 2023 but decided to reapply in my gap year in 2024 with a better UCAT and my a levels achieved and now I’m starting dental school next month! I would say still apply to dentistry this year with hygiene and therapy as a 5th choice as you never know you could be offered an interview, it’s worth a try, but focus on getting your a level grades as a priority. I understand wanting to apply for hygiene and therapy but they are quite different careers at the end of the day and if dentistry is what you want to do don’t give up.
