Applying to gateway to medicine courses

I am an S6 student this year and I would like apply for the gateway course for 2025 entry.I am eligible for it. I did Higher Admin, Higher Human Biology, Higher Maths, Higher Chemistry and Higher English in S5 and I got a B for admin but unfortunately I got D’s for the rest, and I am repeating Higher Human Biology , Higher Chemistry ,Higher Maths and instead of repeating also English I’m doing Higher ESOL although I got a B for my N5 English. My question is, would i universities consider me if I applied although I’m repeating and didn’t do well in S5 and if yes what would they expect me to get for my S6 results. I feel so lost and I still really want to do medicine. Can someone please give me an advice.

Hey,
So, i'd start emailing unis immediately. and tell them ur situation and ask for their advice.
The main Unis for gateway in Scotland are Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen and St Andrews.
For St Andrews the entry requirements are:

BBBB in Scottish Highers, to be obtained at one sitting in S5. Must include chemistry and one other of biology, mathematics or physics. (so u wouldn't be eligible)
For Dundee the entry requirements are:

AABB (to be achieved by the end of S6) Essential subjects: Chemistry and Biology plus National 5 Maths at B (So you'd be eligible for application)
for Glasgow the entry requirements are:

Minimum requirement of four Scottish Highers at AABB by S6. We require three of these Highers to be sciences. Science Highers must include Biology and any two of Chemistry, Physics or Maths. Candidates in S6 will be expected to pass all courses undertaken in their S6 programme of study, with a minimum of grade C in any Advanced Highers taken. (so you'd be eligible, but its a very competitive course)
And the lowest grades they've accepted from S5 were BCD.

For aberdeen The entry requirements are:

A minimum of 4 Highers at AABB over one or two sittings (over S4-S6). This must include any two sciences from Chemistry, Maths, Biology/Human Biology and Physics (so you'd be eligible)

Alternatively you could try to consider medicine as a postgraduate option, and apply to a degree that is linked to med e.g. Chemistry, Nursing, Radiography, Biomedical science etc. Then Do Medicine after u graduate.

Best of luck

Hi, this is the University of Aberdeen rep account. Thanks for your interest, and I'm sorry to hear you're feeling lost with your next steps. I would say to bear in mind that there are plenty of routes into Medicine that you can take and there's plenty of support available to getting yourself there. If you're interested in studying at Aberdeen I would recommend getting in contact with [email protected] so our team who run the course can advise, and other universities will have similar team who would be more than happy to advise you on thing like this.

I hope this helps and just let us know if you have any questions about studying in Aberdeen at all!

Ah I see, sorry to hear about that! I know they're dealing with a lot of emails at the moment which may be why it's taken longer. Hopefully you'll have heard back by now, but if not then please email [email protected] which is our general medical admissions email to explain that you haven't heard back and they should be able to follow this up for you. I hope this helps!
