Can I reuse my own personal statement?

Hi I applied last year for accounting and finance at LSE, Leeds, Manchester, Warwick and Bath and I thankfully got all my offers however I had to drop out due to personal reasons. Since then I had a career change and want to pursue actuarial science at LSE Leeds and Manchester. I'm wondering if I can reapply with a very similar personal statement to last years one? The reason I say similar is because in my A&F personal statement I talked about my love of maths and that is really important in actuarial science so I'd like to use the same paragraph because I'd essentially be repeating myself anyway. Another example is a book I read that got me interested in careers in finance so I'd keep that same book. I also kept my intro similar but added a few sentences here and there. I also removed a paragraph and replaced it with one talking about what I did / will do in my gap year. With all these considered, can I reuse/ use a very similar personal statement and if I can, will it be detrimental towards my possible offers at university? Thanks

Yes, you can re-use the same - or similar - personal statement. As long as your name hasn't changed!

UCAS get people re-applying in the next cycle all the time, and are very aware that your can't plagiarise your own work.

So there wouldn't be any negative effects of doing this? E.g LSE think that I haven't rlly changed my personal statement from A&F to actuarial science so I clearly don't care or whatever (even tho largely they are similar)

They’re not going to take the time to compare the two statements.

Alright, thank you so much. I'll submit it later and hope for the best - actuarial science is less competitive than accounting and finance anyway

No worries, just update it with anything relevant you've done in the interim.

Hello, sometimes reusing or revising your previous personal statement is a common approach, especially when the subjects share a strong overlap, like accounting and finance with actuarial science. Since you're focusing on the same core strengths, such as your love of maths, it makes sense to keep certain parts of your previous statement, like the paragraph on maths or the book that inspired your interest in finance.
However, universities may run plagiarism checks, even on resubmitted applications from the same student. If your new statement is too similar to your previous one, it could raise a red flag.
You can avoid plagiarism by; making some adjustments like making sure that the sections you retain are clearly aligned with actuarial science. For example, instead of just talking about your love of maths in general, focus more on how this love of maths specifically connects to the field of actuarial science.
You can also update and reflect new experiences, skills, or knowledge you’ve gained during your gap year that are relevant to actuarial science. This shows growth and a continued interest in the subject. Thank you
You don't need to rejig a statement to avoid plagiarism checks because you can't plagiarise yourself in this context and unis will see that you're the same applicant.

This is especially true since UCAS moved to Hub and you can submit applications over different cycles with the same ID.
