Suddenly want to become a child nurse

I’ve been watching Grey’s Anatomy for a while and I have been really interested in the show. The moment I wake up, I turn the tv on to watch it, and before bed the same applies. I’m just so fascinated in the whole aspect. As of late, I’ve suddenly developed an interest or curiosity to pursue a career in nursing. Particularly, child nursing. I already work with children and have dreamed of becoming a primary school teacher but now, this show is just making me want todo something else. I don’t know if this is a faze or something, but I’ve been researching further into the career of a paediatrician and thinking it’s something I could do - but then again, I don’t know. I do want to be a primary teacher 100% but then the possibility of being a nurse/doctor sounds pretty cool and of course my interest is working with children, so either one would be great overall. Eh, I don’t know if I’m cut out for it. Honestly, I was thinking to myself that later on I could quality as a teacher for some years then progress into nursing but then thinking of all the debt I would of accumulated through my undergraduate, and masters would alottttt. Then having to study again. IDEK HELP PLEASE

As a student childrens nurse, with a close relative whose a teacher, both are a massive commitment. I'm not saying that to warn you off, just to prepare you. Being a teacher takes a lot of time out of your life, not just school hours. And being a nurse is a lot of work. The degree is a lot of hard work, and it doesn't just end when you graduate. It takes a huge emotional and physical toll.
if it's something you're passionate in then go for it, both careers are really rewarding. But don't go into a career on a whim because of a tv show, you'll regret it in the long run. As the previous replier said, try get some proper work experience in both and talk to people doing those jobs and ask for their opinion. Let me know if you have any other questions x

I’ve been working in a school for over 3 years already and I do enjoy it. Within this time, it’s giving me the experience and opportunity to progress further, like qualifying as a teacher myself and wanting to study the PGCE. I already know the highs and lows of the work environment in a school, so it would not be new to me, as I’m familiar. I’ll look into getting some experience in a child’s hospital or something, in the near future to see if it’s something for me long term. I know that having a sudden interest in something and wanting todo it straight away, isn’t as easy as it seems. I also don’t know any one who’s actually gone through teaching so I’m just relying on people’s experiences on online forums, and my own experience. Luckily, I have a sister who is a O&G Nurse, and will consider asking for her opinion on her routine/experience of the role.
Also, how long have you been a student child nurse? And what are your experiences of the course thus far?
