Computer Science at top universities with resits

Hi everyone,

Are there any cases of people getting into universities such as Oxbridge, Imperial, UCL, or Warwick for Computer Science with A-Level resits? Just wanted to make sure my aspirations aren't totally hopeless - drop a comment if this applies to you, thanks.

Not 100% sure but bear in mind computer science, especially at Oxbridge and Imperial is outrageously competitive, at Oxford I know for sure it is the single most competitive course. The fact that you had to resit the A level could possibly weigh you down, but remember your application will be considered holistically, as in, they will look at everything to determine whether you receive an offer. Do you have any offers to study compsci this year?

I had a contextual offer of A*AB from UCL, which I unfortunately missed as I got A*ABB with the A* in the wrong subject. I'm planning on retaking 2 or even 3 subjects and I know for sure I can achieve all A*s but I'm aware this puts me at a massive disadvantage even though I have extenuating circumstances... I just have no idea if it's even worth reapplying to top universities.

Yeah, but none that I'm in a position to accept. I had an offer from Warwick for A*A*A and one from Southampton for A*AA. UCL was my firm, so the other two were pointless as the requirements were higher.

Might need to resit next year then, you mind if I ask specifically what subjects you achieved each grades in

Oh for sure, that's why I was asking about resits. A* in CS, A in Maths, B in Further Maths, and B in Economics. Currently getting my Econ remarked; if I can get it bumped up to an A, I won't resit it, otherwise I'll be resitting everything other than CS. It's looking rough tbh
Has anybody got any experience of resitting the Computer Science written and NEA again, if so would really appreciate information to centres that provide a resit for written and NEA..... Please... Thanks

It's 100% worth it. I know people who've done exactly what you've done and got in to Oxford for CS so don't worry about it. Focus on getting the grades.

Imperial + Warwick I would say are no-gos, unless you state your mitigating circumstances that led you to not perform. Being a contextual applicant won't be good enough here I don't think - you need to state something that happened DURING or in the run up to your A level exams that led you to perform poorly and after that, it's up the discretion of the university.

If you ask me, if you do plan on resitting, with the universities you've mentioned, the only places you will have a small chance are with Oxbridge and UCL, but know that it's an upward struggle.

Umm.....Maths + Stats at Oxford? Econ and Management? There's so many courses you have no idea about.
