Can you doan A level in 1 year?

Hi all, So I am planning on resitting my A levels in biology and chemistry to get them from an BC to AA but I don't want to retake my French A level.
This is because I have doubts that I can achieve an A in French and it will most certainly take up most of my time to improve my science subjects!
Is it wise to do an A level in 1 year?
Which A levels could I pull this off in?
I have done some research and I found subjects like Maths, politics or sociology?
Thanks in advance!

The answer to your question depends on what you plan on studying at university and where you plan on applying. It’s not impossible to resit 3 A levels in one sitting, but if it’s not necessary and you feel as though it won’t benefit you, there’s no point in resitting French alongside biology and chemistry. As someone studying politics who knows people studying maths and sociology, don’t underestimate the intensity of these subjects. Politics and sociology (particularly sociology) are very content heavy essay based subjects. With maths, the grade boundaries in recent years have skyrocketed. Again, the answer to your question really depends on what and where you plan to study.

Yes. Some colleges do intensive A levels if there are any nearby to you. If you feel like you have no time for French, you could listen to podcasts and read books in French in your free time or on the bus etc, also there’s an app called Beelinguapp that has French books with English translation. Also since you’re already on a B and C you’ll likely be able to increase them to an AA. Try to do past papers also if possible maybe try to get UPLEARN. If you’re good at the other subjects, choose them and you will do well since you enjoy them. But it might be worth looking at textbooks and specifications to see how much content there is.

Hi thanks for answering my post! I am planning on reapplying to medicine so I don’t know whether this would work?

If you are not eligible for contextual offers or foundation years, I believe most medical schools would require at least AAA. Your safest bet is to resit all three subjects, if this is the case. Learning an entirely new A level from scratch will be difficult if you are not enrolling on an intensive A level course (1 year long). If you truly cannot resit French as well as biology and chemistry, I would suggest only applying to medical schools that require AAB (e.g. Brunel, Kent and Medway, Buckingham). You will also have to check the resit policies for different medical schools.

Absolutely possible.
I finished sixth form with two a levels due to illness, two years ago. Last November, I decided I wanted to go to Uni, picked up a new A Level (sociology) and taught it fully to myself in sixth months whilst working 40 hour weeks.
It’s 100% possible, if you prioritise it but since you are resitting you’re somewhat already in a better position.
You can enter with your school again or you can privately take them just make sure you enroll in enough time.
