anyone at salford uni doing creative music tech know how similar it is to a music production course at another uni?

Although I won't be able to talk about the Music Production course at another institution, I can tell you a bit about our BA (Hons) Music: Creative Music Technology course here at Salford University.
We focus on combining your existing musical talent with an in-depth knowledge of music production. You’ll spend your time recording and producing music and sound for bands, ensembles, your own compositions, film, radio and games.
As a Creative Music Technology student studying at Salford, you’ll have access to Manchester’s thriving arts and music scene. Whether you’re part of the crowd, performing in front of one, or mixing the show, there are plenty of creative opportunities for you to get involved in.

Hey Matt thanks for the reply and info, really helpful.
So all in all, would you say this course is good for someone wanting to specialise and pursue music production? Because obviously the name is music ‘technology’ rather than ‘production’. Just want to understand what makes the course so different that it’s not called “BA (Hons) Music: Music Production”instead.
Also what is the general balance of the technical side of the course vs the creative side?

I want to start by saying that these are brilliant questions and ones to re-ask on an open day as our current students on the course and our lecturers will be able to answer them in a lot more detail.
To try and answer this now; I would say that we try and focus on both the technical side (which is where the production falls) and the creative performing and making music side. We want to set you up to have as many transferable skills as possible. If you know your passion is production now then that is great and something we would encourage you to pursue.
You will begin by learning about composition, arranging and performance, as well as developing practical musical technology experience along the way. This will give you a valuable skill base as you move into your second and third year, when you’ll dive headlong into our three core areas of study: Studio Recording and Production, Audio for Media and Studio Composition.
In your final year, you’ll work closely with your supervisors and peers, focusing on two areas of specialist study, one of which will be the recording and production side. So again if this is where your passion is already then that is great, we will have the opportunities there for you to pursue those passions.
Just to reiterate, these are great questions from you and it is great that you are taking the time to find the answers. I would say that coming to our Open Day and speaking to our students and staff on the course may be a lot more insightful for you. So do look into this opportunity.

Just wanting to get as much info as possible so I can have peace of mind before I go to the open day.
Just one last question, as it is my main one (if you are able to answer it); why is the course called ‘Creative Music Tech’ rather than ‘Music Production’? Seems there’s a lot of similarities between the 2.
