Btec national diploma in art and design

I'm looking for some advice regarding my daughter's situation. She's 20 years old, has an EHCP, and recently received a grade 3 in her GCSE Maths, got merit in level 2 diploma art and design. She’s planning to enroll in BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design. However, the college has told us that she needs to retake GCSE Maths. They've mentioned that if she doesn't pass next year, they might offer an exemption.

Given her EHCP and the fact that she's already 20, I'm wondering if retaking GCSE Maths is absolutely necessary for her to pursue the BTEC. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? What options do we have, and how does this affect her progression in the course?

Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Hiya, it's pretty standard for those with lower GCSE marks in Maths and English to resit the GCSE alongside the btec qualifications. It's not out of the ordinary I'm afraid as it's becoming a national (political) requirement for students to have Maths/English. Does that make sense?
