What does my dad mean by this? Education = benefits

What’s my dad talking about?

I want to re-sit my A-levels in a gap year but he says that if I do so since I won’t be in education (re-sitting privately) that I will have to get a job. Apparently when you’re in education, the government gives you money (benefits or something like that) and so if I’m not in education I won’t get the benefits?
Your parents will receive child benefits up until the age of 18, depending on how many siblings;

"It's usually paid every 4 weeks. If you're eligible you'll get £25.60 a week for your first child and £16.95 a week for any children after that. You can claim Child Benefit if: you're 'responsible for the child'

Unless he gets extra with Universal Credit I'm not sure what he is talking about. But he probably doesn't get money anymore if you have turned 18.
Are you just taking the exams or studying full time the whole year? If you are in full time education be may be able to get a reduction in Council tax.
Either way, not sure what

Yes, he does get universal credit since he is on low income but I don’t understand how me going to school for another year or not will impact him?

Not an expert myself - but some of these benefits get extended for maybe a year if the kid is still in full time education/training, so you taking a gap year might drop the household income and force your parents to give you an ultimatum.

Realistically, you were going to need some sort of job for a gap year here, if your household is on universal credit you couldn't really expect them to significantly support you all year.

Probably a financial concern or he doesn't want you loafing about on the settee (assuming that you would - lol) and not making any financial contribution, hence the ultimatum.
