Personal statement inquiry

How do I write my personal statement for biomedicine course in the university?
Start with - "I realised I wanted to study Biomedicine at Uni when...."
What was that incident, something you read something you saw on TV, what?

Then a few examples of topics within this subject that especially interest you, and why.

A final short paragraph about what else you do - sport, p/time work, whatever - and what you have learnt from that that might be useful at Uni, like confidence, dealing with new people etc.

Sensible advice from Essex Uni here - How to write your personal statement: the big do’s and don’ts (youtube.com) and the document mentioned at the end of the film is excellent.

Hiya!

It is great to hear that you are interested to study biomedicine at university!

If you are currently in a college / sixth form hopefully you will receive some workshops about university applications, what UCAS is and personal statements. When I was in college we had several sessions on these topics including workshops dedicated to planning personal statements. We were also lucky to have universities visit and deliver presentations on this. I highly recommend reaching out to your personal tutor or careers adviser for advice - they’re usually more than happy to help and offer great suggestions 😀

In addition, I suggest doing some online research. For instance, the UCAS website has a very useful guide on writing personal statements, and applications, and many universities also seem to share tips on their own websites. I have attached some links to the UCAS website, as I believe it will be useful

I would also recommend in attending a university Open Day. By attending an Open Day, this is a great opportunity to learn more about Biomedical Science, meet the lecturers and hopefully talk to some current students. You are more than welcome to speak to these lecturers and ask what they think should be included or what might make your personal statement stand out. Lecturers are usually eager and passionate to share advice, especially to potential students who seem genuinely interested and also passionate about the course.

Reflecting on my own experience yet bearing in mind that I don't study biomedicine it’s important to write about your interest in the course, the skills you’ve developed, your achievements, and your broader interests. If possible, include details about sports, hobbies, or any work experience. It doesn’t have to be strictly academic—this is your chance to showcase who you are and make a strong impression

I hope this has helped
