Please can someone give advice on what to do?

Please can someone answer this question that I have.

So, I was predicted 3A*s in my A-levels but achieved BBB because I was recently diagnosed with autism and so didn’t get extra time as it was too late for my school to submit an application. I am going to retake my A-levels as I’m not happy with my grades.

However, I wanted to apply to Oxford because I had an offer from them previously which I missed. But, would they accept retakes and more importantly would have autism but not getting extra time be considered a good enough extenuating circumstance to mitigate my poor results?

Apparently they place a lot of emphasis on admissions tests and that is one thing that I could possibly do well on but I’m not sure if that would mitigate my results.

Honestly, I don’t know. I think in this situation it would be best to contact the admissions officer either for your department or the college you want to apply to.

All universities accept A-Level retakes, and your grades were not terrible but above the national average at BBB. So, by all means re-apply but to a different college. You would also have to get it mentioned in your reference and e-mail your chosen college admissions tutor.

I wonder which A-Level subjects you did? 😧

Also, which degree course did you apply for at Oxford University last year?

Oxford's official advice on retakes can be found here: https://uni-of-oxford.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/510/~/what-is-oxfords-policy-on-retakes%3F so it probably is worth applying again and mentioning your mitigating circumstance, if you can achieve the required grades when you resit. It also might be worth looking into their foundation year (https://foundationyear.ox.ac.uk/home) which has lower entry grades which could be another option - I believe a late SEN diagnosis fulfils one of the criteria but you'd also need to be non selective state educated for all of your compulsory education and meet certain socioeconomic criteria.
