Best A level btec options for engineering

Hi my son has his exam results and is about to enrol in his collage courses but we have hit a bit of a technical issue. He wanted to take A level maths ,comp science and physics as he wants to go into engineering he got
a 7 in maths and physics a 6 in biology a 5 in chemistry and 5 in English language which is what he was told he needed to do the a levels he wanted he's now been told he can't do physics A level due to the 5 in chemistry as the collage is now saying he needed a 6 in physics and maths plus 66 in combined science or 666 triple science it just seems unfair as if he had done the combined science he would have easily got 66 a lot of other collages round the country are accepting lower and less grades he's above the entrance grade for the physics and maths but there not budging he has been offered applied science btec insted of the physics could he still do well in engineering with these ? he's not sure if he wants to go on to university or not yet
are there any other options or any points to argue with the collage ? He loves physics and is very frustrated and upset
Any advice would be appreciated

You can ask if they would be able to offer taster A-level Physics lessons and also an assessment to see if he has the right knowledge to do well in A-level Physics. If he doesn't do well he can drop it by half term or at the end of the term - but this only works if he has 3 other A-level choices and Physics is the 4th choice.

Thanks for the reply we spoke with the head of physics and he said looking at his grade profile he would struggle even if he got the 6 in chem or combined science which i dont understand as there the required grades for the course so he's doing the applied science instead but it might be worth him asking once he starts nxt week
