EPQ Help

So I am starting sixth form and one of my A-Levels is EPQ, I was thinking about discussing something around the topic - Particle Physics (Quantum Mechanics). To begin with, I don't have a depth understanding of this topic, or any at all. I simply chose it as I am very interested in this topic and wish to learn more about it, in addition for my possible future career. I was wondering whether anyone has ideas of questions I could talk about in this EPQ Essay, or ideas of me changing this whole topic. Thank you!

hii! i just answered one of your recent questions about starting sixth form, but i saw this one and thought i'd answer it too! to start with, i'm not sure about what exam board you're doing for physics, but one of the first things to consider when choosing an epq topic is to make sure it doesn't overlap with any content in the syllabus (in this case physics curriculum) - btw this is like a rule that the exam boards specify. i do aqa alevel physics and the first topic is actually particle physics and quantum, so that would mean there's a clash and i wouldn't be allowed to write on that topic. i would say wait until you know what topics are in your syllabus and chose one that isn't included. however, if you were really interested in particle physics for example, then i would do some further research and specifically find an area in quantum that doesn't clash. hopefully this makes sense!

hiii! so unfortunately i cant really tell you what to write your epq on, but i have some advice on how you should go about doing this!
1) find a topic of interest (this doesn't have to be specific yet) that you ENJOY - this stem from your alevel subjects or even just outside interests
2) make sure this topic doesnt overlap in your alevels!! you aren't allowed to write about something that may come up in your curriculum so double check with your teachers!
3) if youre still struggling ask yourself, what could i spend a whole year researching (without getting bored)?, what things/hobbies/activities/scientific theories/case studies etc. interest me?
4) another thing, if you know/have a rough idea what you would like to study at uni/future career, it would look amazing if you can research around this to extend your knowledge and make you look like a promising applicant!
hope this helps, and just lmk if you have any other questions!

hi, thank you for that, ive somewhat decided to either do something related to the how ai advancement have impacts healthcare and use examples like the pig heart operation that took place , but not too sure if thats good , or a more 'contoversial' topic if trans men (so now women) can be in female sports , and talk about how women sports adavance , debating on whether its fair but im not too sure tho yet

they both sound good to me! as long as you can find/source enough (reliable) information to talk about in your essay, then you're fine. i'd pick whichever you're more enthusiastic about. good luck!
