I’m about to start Year 13 and achieved an A in my end of year mock (predicted an A currently, but trying to get this up to an A*). Did you consistently get A*s throughout Year 12 and/or Year 13 or did your grades fluctuate? What methods did you use to achieve an A* and which would you recommend to someone wanting to go from an A to an A*? Do you have any tips for remembering evaluations and/or hitting the top level band on evaluations? Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated

Hey, so in all my mocks I got an A overall, I was able to get an A* overall in the actual exam, but consistently I did not get any grade lower than A for my mocks. The best method for achieving an A* was exam questions. Our teachers gave us these massive packs of questions which we would do for practice and I ended up doing each pack more than once. It is also important to understand what the mark scheme wants from your answer so I used that as my guide. Another tip is really understanding the content, because psych is so content heavy understanding the content will allow you to reach those high end marks. Also for the 16 markers or the high mark questions you need to clearly outline sections. For example evaluations you should use always start with A strength of this is/ A weakness of this is... because it allows the examiners to clearly understand which section is the explanation and which section is the evaluation.

For the 16 markers in particular it would be best if you plan before answering, I usually planned for a minute where I wrote any evaluations or any information which will help me. I also clearly outlined the PEEL/CC structure in my answer so for example if the question is asking you outline and evaluate, in my evaluation bit I always started with A weakness/A strength of this theory is... as a clear indication that my evaluation was starting. Also focus on developing your evaluation as a good chunk of marks in the question are from it.

Hello!! Congrats on getting an A*!!!. I have 2 questions. 1) What were your optional topics for paper 3? 2) Do you have or know anyone that have access to the digital version of the year 2 textbook? (Its okay if you dont, im only asking as i am doing back to school shopping and buying a £30 textbook on top of other things would make it expensive)

Hey thank you so much, so my optional modules were forensic psychology, relationships and schizophrenia. For the book my school gave us a login for everyone to use so try to also ask your school if they give copies out. Otherwise there are several online resources I used like: simplypsychology, learndojo and psychologyalevel. Hope that helps 😊

Definitely the exam questions, I felt like I did so much practice before going into my exam and I tried my best remembering the information. In particular I always used a mini whiteboard and tried to remember the information especially the evaluations for each topic. Also do practice in timed conditions especially for the 16 marker, you do not want to be spending more than 20 minutes each as you will have the other questions to answer.

There will be some maths in psych, most likely in the research method section, but it won't be way too much. The maths is also quite straightforward so you will be fine.

The best method is active learning. When revising I always did mind-maps or used my whiteboard to remember information. Exam questions need to be your best friend because you will learn a lot from doing them. Since psychology is content heavy make sure to focus on understanding the content and also the evaluations. As long as you consistently revise you will get a high grade. Hope this helps 😊
