What universities can I get into with a BBC? Looking to do a BA Geography Degree.

Hello all, I need some help.

I'm currently taking a gap year before applying to university for a BA Geography Degree. I need some help working out which universities would accept a BBC. If someone has a list of good universities that would accept these grades (112 UCAS points), that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
I dont know of an actual list but many requiring higher will drop to these grades in clearing. A number of years ago someone on here got offers from Swansea, Cardiff and Leicester amongst others with BCD actual. The best advice is to ring universities and check. There are currently many available in clearing for Geography and you might find some will offer guaranteed accommodation. The Welsh universities were.

Hey, I'd recommend using WhatUni for this.

Thank you. I'm starting my gap year so will go through the clearing process this time next year. I'm currently resitting mathematics, the subject in which I got my C, and hoping to improve my grade up to an A. I'll look into Swansea, Cardiff and Leicester - I might attend their open days - and go through the UCAS process with those in mind - I might apply to them during the UCAS process if that's possible.

Thank you very much, looks like there are several options available with these grades 😀

Geography is not a competitive subject at any Unis and so its worth having two, possibly even three, choices above your predicted grades. The following Unis are 'good' for Geog but were accepting far lower than their stated entry requirements at Clearing this year so definitely worth applying - especially if you are eligible for a Contextual offer:
Geography Undergraduate Courses - Swansea University
Undergraduate prospectus : Undergraduate study : Geography Department : University of Sussex
Undergraduate | Geography and Environment | Loughborough University (lboro.ac.uk)
Undergraduate courses : Department of Geography & Earth Sciences , Aberystwyth University
Geography - University of Plymouth (good Insurance choice)

Thank you so much for this! This is incredibly useful. I have already done my A-Levels and BBC were my grades. I’m now taking a gap year where I will be going through the UCAS process and will likely apply for some of these universities.

I’m resitting mathematics, hoping to grow my grades to ABB which should open even more doors. However, I’m pleased to know that there are many good opportunities for me with the grades I currently have.
My daughter applied for unis post-A-Level - she had BCC from two years ago.

Applying post-A Level is less stressful in some ways but the big problem with it is it's a bit of a guessing game. As one example Liverpool Uni was offering French and International Relations at BCC in Clearing but for 2025 they're still advertising that they want AAB! So things do get a bit complicated in terms of knowing what a uni will really accept as opposed to what they say they want. My daughter did end up in a place that I think will be right for her (Aberystwyth) but it was more by luck than anything!

I would suggest putting a list together of the unis you would really like to go to based on course, location etc and not worrying too much about the grade requirements initially. After you've done that you can work out your strategy of when would be the best time to apply. Would you prefer the security of having everything decided early or are you happy taking a bit of a risk if your preferred uni's official offer is too high but might come down in Clearing?

I think a bit of both. I’ll probably apply for a few universities which would likely accept my current grades. If I believe there is a better option during the clearing process, should I get or not get an improved grade from the mathematics resit, then I will apply for that. However, perhaps I might have chosen a perfect university prior to that point - I need to do more research into it.

Hi @Lee22222
The UCAS website has a great tool to allow you to search for all the different courses at each university and notes the UCAS tariff points required by each university Geography courses | | UCAS.
Hope this helps!
