mattie tries to survive year 13 !!

hi everyone! i'm starting yr 13 in 5 days <( _ _ )> so i thought now would be the perfect time to create my own gyg blog!

.⋆✴︎˚。 🍊 ₊˚✧

about me:
subjects: history, sociology, film studies & epq (which im sure i'll regret)
goals for the year: achieve my predicted grades! (which i'm yet to find out...); get as many university offers as possible with a sick personal statement; not leave all my homework & revision & coursework til the last minute; work on my mental health and stop rotting in bed!!!
last years mock results: A in history, A* in sociology, A in film studies
dream grades: at least an AAA
applying to: uoyork (top choice!), uoliverpool, lancaster, bangor and durham for history
interests/hobbies: listening to music (clairo in particular at the moment!), reading (cr is we need to talk about kevin), tloz, tlou, rdr2, ice skating, bandminton + studying if i'm being totally honest with myself

things i use:
- study bunny - my bunny is called link and i love him dearly
- my massive alevel spreadsheet that looks awful and only i understand it (would love to make a prettier one but i simply dont know how)
- mostly paper i'm the worlds biggest hater of making revision resources online unless they're cheat sheets which i then print out
- big practice question enjoyer
- this blog hopefully!!

.⋆✴︎˚。 🍊 ₊˚✧

i doubt this will be the prettiest blog in the world but believe me i will try to commit! thank you for your time :P
Ooh! This looks exciting!
Good luck with everything this year! Will be following along!
Good luck from a fellow year 13! I love your formatting btw!

phew it's been a while.. been busy getting back into the swing of things with school & playing the last of us ii on permadeath (currently on day 3 ellie btw). my timetable is near perfection even with the extra yr12 history lessons ive taken on for extra revision (friday i have 1 lesson first thing in the morning and am off for the rest of the day) and my new sociology teacher is great despite my initial freak-out when i found out. i gave myself the week off so i could easily readjust but that does mean my to-do list is getting a bit out of hand:

review personal statement feedback (hopefully finalise it for submission?)
read a bunch of articles on jstor for my history coursework to develop my ao1
finish my 'this is england' mindmap for film
review my sociology notes for education (paper 1) and family/households (part 1 of paper 2)
prepare for timed assessment week.. (w/c 30th september)
find resources for pan's labyrinth so i can more easily complete my mindmap when the time comes

i was going to start working on this yesterday but i was so sick by the time i got home i couldn't bring myself to do it so we're getting started today! i have a film coursework review on friday that i'm sooo nervous for but it's also my younger brothers birthday this week so i have that to look forward too :-)

work on your essay skills!!! truly the best thing to do bc even if you know the content, you wont get marks if its written terribly. for revising the content i really only use mindmaps and blurting but i'm going to star experiment with flashcards in sociology. i use massive a3 sheets of paper for my history mindmaps esp bc the papers are divided into certain topics like economy, political authority, social/cultural change etc

history :-) what about you?

i have no idea yet😭 thinking of either business or computer science but who knows i’m so indecisive it could be something totally different next week. History is such a good one tho wishing you all the best

i've been so tired lately, wonder if i'm actually getting sick? might just be college killing me bc i'm not used to being back and the temperature is dropping so quickly?? it's my little brothers birthday today so i'm not sure how much work i'll get done this evening.. maybe a history article or two hopefully. not making much much tlou2 progress.. but have been loving 'we need to talk about kevin'! hoping i'll get it finished this week?

done:
personal statement 4th draft.. just need to cut down my character count by around 60 characters
began reading history articles for my ao1 [continuing with this - i have a long list]
sociology and film essays i was assigned as homework

to do:
prep for timed assessment week
prep for sociology initial assessment..
'this is england' mindmap
review sociology notes [can be done during prep for initial/timed assessment]
review history notes [2nd year political authority]
reading historical articles
