Second offence academic misconduct- uni of Leeds

Hi everyone, I need some urgent advice regarding my situation. I recently received communication from my university stating that due to an academic misconduct case (specifically the use of AI tools), I won't be able to progress to my third year until my case is reviewed by the Committee on Applications. This is my second offence, but I have severe mitigating circumstances that I submitted as part of the case. Unfortunately, I've been informed that the waiting time for the review is around six months, and during this period, I may need to become an External Student, which would affect my visa and ability to remain in the UK. I'm really concerned about the potential consequences—could this lead to expulsion, and what should I expect moving forward? Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

A second offence is a problem -- it sounds like you didn't learn from your mistakes first time round. A second offence is likely to lead to a more significant penalty than a first offence; and while I suspect expulsion isn't a realistic option for a first offence, it probably would be for a second offence -- it would depend on the seriousness and what specifically you've been accused of.

Regarding the visa issue -- for that, you'd need to consult your university's visa team. They will have the knowledge and training to explain how this will affect your visa.

I used ai and it was a horrible mistake that I deeply regretted.

Would you regret it if you hadn't been caught?

Hey I’m going through something very similiar. I’m classed as an external student for the forthcoming year, might be expelled as it’s a second offence of collusion. What was your mitigating circumstances?
I go to uni of Leeds too
