Id just advise not to do creative. I thought my creative was pretty good but I didnt do as well as I would have hoped and it was my lowest mark out of the 3 components. All my friends who done persuasive managed to get higher marks and I did persuasive at N5 and also got a higher mark then.

I agree with what you said. My scores for creative was also lower than I had hoped. I think discursive is a lot more clear cut to the marker on how to mark whereas creative can truly be up to interpretation of the marker--each marker is likely going to mark you differently and at that point its like a game of jackpot.

For example, my teacher gave me an estimated 12/15 for my folio and I achieved a 10/15 at higher level. I got a much higher score for my discursive at Nat 5 (but ofc that is also at a lower level). A discursive essay on a topic that can be fleshed out is probably your best bet.

Of course it is best to pick something you are interested in as this is something you are going to have to research quite extensively to get your points out of.

It was recommended to my class in Nat 5 not to go for anything very common since markers tend to have to read a lot of these essays and it gets quite dull for them--topics mentioned in our Nat 5 booklets were like abortion, euthanasia, gun laws, etc (think very common)--ofc this doesn't mean you can't do them but it is just a recommendation.

Another thing that some people do which I would avoid is topics that aren't very serious as they tend to get marked quite poorly unless done very well. My friend did an essay on pineapple on pizza for her Nat 5 and didn't do very well. I think my Nat 5 teacher also said the only person she had to well on an unserious topic was on jaffa cakes being cakes or biscuits because they managed to write it well enough. It is also difficult to get research and points out of those topics.

Now it is difficult to tell you what exactly to do since there are so many topics you could do although I totally get that it's really hard to think of one but I can give good examples that you could use or hopefully give some inspiration? I wrote about women making the decision not to have children in my Nat 5 and a friend who wrote about books being better than movies who also did quite well. Some people have also considered topics like beauty standards in media and how it affects young girls, and topics along those lines. Maybe think about something you've heard about recently or do some research in topics until you find something that interests you and you know you can write a lot about.

Sorry for the massive reply, but I hope this helps!

I ended up doing creative, mine was a reflective essay on my families dynamic. I ended up getting 12/15 so i don’t think it’s impossible to do well in creative
