constant rejection from jobs

getting rejected by McDonalds is such a humbling experience, if they won't even except me then what on earth am I doing wasting money at university when I can't even get a job there. summer is basically over and all I have received is rejection emails. how do people cope with this?

They take it on the chin in its context. During the holidays places like McDonalds are inundated by overqualified students looking for short term contracts with hours that will allow them to be on “holiday” at the same time. Yes a certain number will be taken on because there will be increased business during the same period but the competition for those places is going to be tough. Try applying for the same job out of the holiday season if a vacancy becomes available and you’ll find it’s a lot easier.
Afterwards, given the price of a university education, unless you are studying a subject that is absolutely necessary to get into a certain field of employment, asking whether university is worth it is a valid question. In the 3 or more years at university you will learn so many things. It’s not just about your course but about acquiring independence and becoming responsible for yourself. But it does have a price tag!! Schools and parents would be wise to explore other opportunities with future students. Apprenticeships etc are undervalued, but very valid alternatives.
