Change of course before I start?

I have a place for a joint honours course but over the revision/exam period I've really got super interested in one of the subjects over the other and ideally would rather study that one, as a single subject.

Should I try to do that now, rather than wait until I get there?
Is there any risk in doing so? I.e. could they turn around and boot me off the original course?
Do I just speak to admissions or should I speak to the course leaders/professsors?

Thanks

Hi,

The best people to speak to at this stage are Admissions regarding the technical 'can I switch', 'what do I need to do to switch' queries. The course leaders would be better placed to provide insight into the two areas and support with questions about the programme(s) that might sway your decision either way. So it depends how set you are at this stage. Once you start this is the kind of thing that would be escalated through your Personal Tutor, they would then direct you on how you go about changing and which forms/teams need to be completed/notified (and likely chat through your decision to support you doing the best thing for you). There will be a point in term where you cannot change modules, your Personal Tutor or Support Hub could provide guidance on what this deadline is (usually a few weeks in).

If you are set on changing if you can my advice is to always try to action this sooner rather than later. Once teaching starts you will need to play catch up on content you miss, so better to not delay if you can as it can rack up quickly. If it isn't possible for you to change because the programme is at capacity you won't lose your original place and it doesn't mean it won't be possible later (e.g. at year 2).

Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks, it does.

The only point you didn't address was the risk - I'm nervous about being seen as not interested in the original course and, if I can't change, risking my place. Is that a remotely realistic risk?

Sorry I just had a very brief line about that at the end - to reiterate by expressing an interest to switch you won't risk losing your existing place. It is only if yo accept an offer/move that your existing place wold be lost. Just saying you would like to switch won't see us take that place off of you or give it to someone else, there would need to be a formal agreement.

Hope this reassures you.
