And that 740 has a 4.0 litre engine, its going to cost my mate £1500 a year to insure a 1.3 litre Ford Ka worth £2000. I reckon a BMW 540 will cost a young driver with no no claims discount at least £10k a year if they can find any company daft enough to insure it.

I wasn't sure if you were male and female, so I decided to be gender-neutral and put you down as male

money really isn't issue but if simply having the car will be a huge hassle and burden to deal with I shall do without.

You can buy cars very cheaply in the UK, second hand cars are not worth much at all, and in Europe cars are extremely reiable due to the attenton they pay in designing the engines, rather than spending all the money on gadgets. If you want to buy a car buy a fiesta or VW Polo or somthing, it will be much cheaper to run much eaiser to handle in traffic and much eaiser to insure. Even then you will probably only be able to use it to escape London.

Don't waste your time or money on a fiesta. If you are dead keen on a small car for London try the BMW 3 Series

£1500 a year to insure a 1.3 litre Ford Ka worth £2000
thats better than what i got when we saw about insuring me on my mums ford ka.

the best answer was "No"

because a) im a male, b) i live in northern ireland and that seems to be an excuse for insurance companies to rip us off

I could buy a car over there but I don't foresee myself purchasing anything outside the bmw or mercedes market. who knows - I'll probably give it a few months without a car and see how well I survive without one.

Well just because the company doesn't want to have to cover a car that will most likely get blown up by a bomb..

I certainly prefer bmw over mercedes and once again money is not something I have to worry about. I am quite fortunate.

You live in the real world though many people on here don't, my dad has a 10 year old Escort, worth about £800, its got 88,000 miles on the clock, got electric everything, is virtualy silent on the motorway, it still runs like brand new, nothing at all wrong with it, so why would we want to waste money on somthing newer?

Slightly off topic there, my mate lives in expensive to insure apart of Manchester too becuase he lives in postcode which has lots of scallies living near by.

I have decided to wait to I am 25 now until I learn to drive/get a car, then I at least afford a new supermini or an older larger car (such as a dirt cheap £500 Mondeo).

I would rather spend money on holidays, music, HIFI, houses etc.

Been two bombs over here too in Manchester, both by the IRA but we can't blame the northern Irish citizens for that. Insuracers usualy only say no on staistics, maybe there is a lot of accidents involving young drivers in NI?
