hey so I’m not an expert on French history and politics but I recently achieved an A* in French A level so I can give general advice!!

i picked la grossophobie (ie. fatphobia) because it is distinctly french. it had a good amount of facts linked to it, which is good as you need enough to talk about for ten minutes. I’d avoid topics that are too broad, but also ones where there’s just not enough to say as this will cap your marks hugely.

Someone i know did the reasons why the french revolution broke out (so not the whole french revolution). I also know someone who did a film, but maybe pick a lesser-known one as they have heard presentations on ‘les intouchables’ so many times. I think doing it on a film is a good idea as there is a set amount of things you could get asked about (so no surprises in the exam) but also enough to talk about.

Be careful if you pick something related to the spec as you’ll need to go beyond the spec for your presentation. Do you have any more specific ideas for your question? If you said these then I would probably be able to tell you whether or not I think it is a good idea.

i really don't have many specific ideas !! im really struggling with that; i thought maybe something on new wave french cinema??? but i wasn't sure exactly what my topic could be for that

i haven't been able to find a niche yet so im just really struggling in general; your topic sounds interesting though !!

that sounds like it could be a good topic as you don’t really do much on it in the spec!!

would just 'new wave cinema' qualify enough for a topic though? i thought you it had to be a more specific question but maybe im wrong; is it okay if its just a topic which you talk about rather than picking a question and answering it (if this makes any sense)

hey so every question should definitely be verified by AQA before you do substantial work on it, as a lot don’t qualify. hopefully your teacher does this as soon as she gets the questions in but check with them!! You need to form a question out of it (it needs to be in english) so something like ‘To what extent did the new wave affect french cinema’ or something like that if that makes sense? Mine was ‘why is fatphobia an issue in france’ which meant i could look at how it originated (ie. how it became an issue) and then why its effects are issues (ie. because it means they cannot obtain jobs as easily and affect overweight’s people’s mental health)
