UoM vs Imperial

Hi, I just wanted to know is UoM much lesser than Imperial for CS? I'm talking in terms of opportunities and networking etc. I'm afraid that by going to Manchester I've missed out on a better career possibility.

Investment Banking has a different answer to everything else here.

For everything else, only 8% of all employers actually factor in which uni you attended when recruiting for graduate positions. The rest don't. For vast majority of industries Manchester is no lesser than Imperial when it comes to Computer Science in the slightest.

For Investment Banking, those big firms have some very particular criteria that they use, including specific unis they will target for recruitment. If the uni is on that target list, you've got a chance; if the uni is not, I wouldn't bet on it.

You need to decide how much does this pathway matter to you.

So it's basically if you're in those few target unis you've got a bit of a chance, if not you've get less of a chance. Regardless, it's still so competitive that the probability that you get in is so low that the uni you're in is just a tiny booster.

I'm not familiar enough with Investment Banking to qualify whether that's an accurate statement or not.

Yes it is always competitive regardless, but these companies have target unis for a reason - those are the unis they will primarily be recruiting from.

You listed IB with a number of other sectors who wouldn't be so discriminatory when recruiting. As I said before, your decision to make is whether IB is something you want to keep in your sights or not.
