No. No one cares. If 20% of the cohort shows up to a lecture, the faculty collectively opens a bottle of lemonade.

Not in my experience. When people knew ahead of time they would miss a lecture in one of my modules we had to request permission from the lecturer to record it on someone's phone to send to that person (which was only possible because the lecture in question was very small). Every other module I don't think there was any specific measure offered, whether the missed lecture was due to a legitimate unavoidable issue or simply because the student didn't show up.

I was told at the beginning of the year they would as a matter of course record lectures, and make these available if needed, however at no point did that actually happen as it turned out. The only time I've even seen it referred to on any modules moodle page is specifically if someone with a SORA required that lectures be recorded, and these were ALWAYS locked behind a section of the moodle page only accessible to those with a relevant SORA.

The only conclusion I can draw from this is UCL do not want to students reviewing recorded lectures after the fact and want them to attend lectures in person. Perhaps unsurprising given they're the subject of a class action lawsuit about online and pre-recorded lectures provided over the pandemic...? Unfortunately their sharp reaction against recorded lectures and any kind of remote activity as a result is a bit of a detriment to all the other students.

If those are provided yes. Depends on the module/course though. A Language module I took didn't have formal lecture slides and notes so it was just various handouts on moodle if you missed a lesson with brief outline of the topics covered.

Another module I did included the lecture slides but since these just formed a very loose basis for a primarily discussion based class they didn't really replace going to the lecture at all.

My elective module in a different department did include the lecture slides that had a fair bit of information however a lot if these also included images and these were juxtaposed in ways that was not obvious what the point being made was if you weren't in the lecture.

Assume if you miss a lecture you're going to need to ask people who were there what happened... :s-smilie:
