MA History reading list?

Hi all, I've applied to MA History and had to defer my entry to 2025 on medical grounds (my GP messed up some referrals big time and I do not have medical evidence in time to get disability accommodations for the year, so had to defer). My offer was unconditional but they said they cannot 100% confirm I can come in Sept 2025 until end of November/December. I should hopefully be getting most of my formal diagnosis papers late this year / early next year ahead of my new degree.

I've already been out of education for a year (graduated in summer 2023, just shy of first class) and I'm a bit worried I'm a bit out of touch with academia as I currently work full time in an admin role in the NHS - are there any reading lists I could look over and get started with in my 12 months before going to Durham?

My last uni also didn't place a huge emphasis on reading lists, are they more important at Durham? And if anyone has any insight into the history department I would be really grateful

Hiya,

Reading lists can be found on here Reading lists and resources - Durham University Library and Collections - Pre-arrival information - Guides at Durham University and to answer your question, yes reading lists are important at Durham (at least for my department) but I would assume the same for all. Still, if you're not sure, you can definitely
reach out to your department and ask them about it, they'll be happy to help 🙂

I hope this helps!
