Help with veterinary medicine uni course

I came to the very late realisation that I want to become a veterinarian. I have practical experience at a pharmacy, but nothing involving animals. Would it be necessary to get that?
Also if you have any book recommendations involving this topic please let me know.
Any tips on my personal statement for this?

Thank you guys!

What year are you? I think you do need to get some work experience with animals to know it’s the vocation for you? Although some Unis don’t specify a specific amount of work experience anymore it’s essential to be able to reflect and be prepared for interviews. If you are applying this year it’s still not too late to try and get a week at a vets practice and some time in animal sanctuary, farm etc. Vet school is highly competitive to get into therefore if it’s what you want you need to be prepared. There are also MOOC courses to get some knowledge. I’m assuming if you were thinking of pharmacy before then you have the correct A level subjects and predicted grades?

Hello! I'm in s6(scottish year) which is my final year of highschool. I've gotten 5 higher As and I'm taking advanced highers this year. I was able to find experience at a stable for next week but the vet clinics are yet to get back to me. I'm getting more scared thinking about the competition as it sounds entirely overwhelming! 😭

Check the entry requirements for the Unis you are interested in applying too, thinking you might be applying in Scotland if based there? Also have a read of the Vet Schools council doc they produce every year which has every vet school in and a must read.
