Applying to both chemistry and physics courses at Imperial college.

Hi! I am a year 13 student studying chemistry, physics, math and further math. I really enjoy both chemistry and physics and am really struggling to decide between the two. I hope to apply to both the 'chemistry with molecular physics' and 'physics' courses at Imperial College. I understand that this is quite risky, considering that Imperial does not accept an additional ps. Does anyone have experience with this or advice on how to go about writing a personal statement showcasing your passion for two subjects?

My current plan is to write about my exploration of topics covered in both chemistry and physics courses.

Thank you and I really appreciate any help/ advice I can get!

Don't. Remember, you can only study one of these anyway. You're going to have to make a decision at some point about what degree you're going to study. Better to do that before you've submitted your applications, not after. What would you do if you got an offer for both?

A chemistry course will have a fair amount of physics content even if you weren't specialising in physical chemistry. Got to know QM, thermodynamics, a bit of EM, a bit of statistical mechanics too perhaps. What areas of physics are you interested in?

What are you applying for at other unis? Natural sciences?

P. S. maths, not math

Yep! I am applying to natural science at other unis.

You mentioned a couple of physics topics in the chemistry course, do you know what the chemistry and molecular physics course entails? I couldn't really find example modules for this and I really want to know what physics topics it includes.

Thank you so much!

"Chemistry with molecular physics" is most likely just the standard chemistry course but they've pre-selected the physics modules that would otherwise be optional in the normal course

I see. Thank you very much for your help! I saw from your profile that you did physics at Imperial? I was just wandering if there are any opportunities to do a bit of chemistry in the physics course?

Thank you!
