hey, welcome to my year 10 gyg!
Ik people mostly start one in year 11, but I think it's cute, and might stop me from procrastinating (to be honest I think I’m going to end up procrastinating to post here loll).
my gcse subjects + how I feel about them as of now
edexcel maths higher (sob)
aqa physics higher (good!)
aqa chemistry higher (bleh)
aqa biology higher (yaa)
aqa english language (alrr)
aqa english literature (shakespeare is my greatest nemesis)
aqa spanish higher (no me comprendo)
edexcel a gegraphy (boringg)
edexcel business (no opinion)
aqa design & technology (I’m scared.)
my plan
to put it shortly, the bare minimum I am expecting (on weekdays) is attempting exam questions. that’s if I’m completely confident in everything I learnt and I don’t have time to make any notes (I don’t really make notes in class + I thought my year 11 self would be thankful. over the weekends, I’m not gonna do much - maybe revisit notes from the past week, look at what’s coming up next etc.
oh, and in the mornings, I also want to do some daily maths and SPaG practice + duolingo. anyways, I could go on and on about how I’m going plan my study seshes and what tools and techniques I’m going to use, but I’m quite the yapper so I kinda have to stop myself here .
extracurriculars
to be honest all I’m really doing rn is taekwondo :frown: but I’m also learning about e-commerce (i’m opening a shopify business sometime in september maybe, we’ll see how well that goes). I’ve been looking into some other stuff, like work experience - barclays offers online work experience, which I’m starting as soon as I get time - and ALSO there is this young entrepreneurship summer programme called leangap which I REALLY want to do (I’m just gonna ignore the fact that it’s just over £5000). you can probably tell that I’m interested in the finance/ entrepreneurship sector .
anyways, that’s it for now. as I said, I could literally write a BOOK about stuff like my future goals, my hobbies etc. but I’ll spare you the details loll. once school starts, I’ll try to update you guys as much as possible + I would absolutely LOVE to hear about your journeys too
take care xx
heyy i'm also in year 10 and i also have a gyg blog! the shopify business sounds SO interesting, and it's such a cool thing to do. please let us know how it goes!

this is my gyg

im genuinely so frightened about dt and i only picked it because im interested in it - for the most part im not even good at it, especially time management.
ive been tryna teach myself a bit of chem in the holidays bc lowkey i didn’t learn anything last year - struggling so hard loll
im doing macbeth and TYSM for the website recommendation really need them <3

Honestly having an interest in it was better than me, by the time i started the NEA i had lost motivation for it and so it wasn't a good project in the end. Your interest in your topic will shine through in your research and exploration of the topic, as long as you also document it all and present it well. If you're worried about sketching you can always check youtube for how to draw like a product designer, my school recommended product design maker.
I can help explain some chemistry topics if you want help, but just looking for alternative resources could give a new perspective on the topics that could help you understand it better.
The shakespeare website saved me too, so i'm happy to pass on the knowledge to you 🙂

Tysmmm actually you've been such a big helpp. Yea tbh I prefer and am much better at the actually sketching and designing than the making (I cannot be trusted with the tools) but I still think its fun - just not that good at it. Which is ironic because the thing which will decide 50% of my gcse grade is the making process - oh well. I wanna try and stay organised from day 1 so I think I'll try and gather as much evidence of the process as possible so later it's just a lot easier for me hopefully. I think the problem with chemistry is that I have a lot of questions but the answer isn't needed for the exam. I think I should just stick with the spec ig but it would be a lot easier for me to kinda clear them up, just takes a lot of time to reattach and find the answer. Tysm again for all your help and recs, it's so great having someone who's already gone through gcse giving advice to us year 10's <3

hii welcome! gonna make sure to check your gyg out  how is your homeschool experience? i was actually homeschooled in year 6, except i was kinda teaching myself. i meann lets say i wasn’t that responsible then and it definitely wasn’t the best experience, but i feel like at this age it would be different??

soo i had my first day at school! here is how it went

we spent period 1 going through admin stuff - timetables, bulletin etc.

period 2 was english - i moved up to set 1  i had my teacher in year 8 so im used to him but he is literally the most physco teacher to exist - lowkey entertaining tho loll. we did a kind of run-through of all the exams for lang and lit and he gave everyone a sheet of quotes for macbeth to memorise. ngl im acc optimistic abt english, despite him being insane he’s a good teacher and he said he’s aiming everyone to get at 8’s and 9’s which idk kinda comforts me.

period 3 and 4 were double geography - we have a new teacher, she’s nice but lowkey can’t teach, just told us to copy everything :/ we started riverss and we got hw - make an a4 fact sheet abt a river of our choice.

period 5 was biology, science is like my comfort subject since it has been the same teachers and people for like 3 years, so it was calm - there was a sub so we kinda just revised what we did last year.

sooo that was my first day of schooll - when i go home i think im aiming to do the geo hw - hopefully finish - revise what i learned in the geography lesson atleast. if i get time im hoping to do a quick flip through of biology since i’ve already done it and maybe even put the macbeth quotes on flashcards (there’s no urgency to memorise the quotes tho, so that’s last priority).

i will update you later about what I was able to do, I wanna keep it a bit relaxed tho so i’ll prob just end up doing the geography stuff. anywayss it you had your first day recently how was it?? i would love to know <3

My teacher gave us a really helpful sheet which you could probably make yourself which had all of the tenses on it and the different endings for that tense! From that I would make flashcards on the endings for each tense, stick post it notes up with them on and use the viva workbook for grammar and stuff!

ahh ok! i actually made some flashcards for all the tenses i’ve learnt so far but it’s gonna take a while for me to memorise all the endings :frown: i haven’t got my textbook yet, but when i do i’ll make sure to focus on grammar, i’m not too bad at vocab because i do duolingo often - whilst i think its good for vocab, it’s grammar isn’t too fab loll.

my mom actually taught me until this year, but i kinda like that everything's online now. and i totally understand not being responsible lol because i used to get kinda distracted, but i think i'm like more mature now? lol

ooh and yepp its super convenient, there are so many online resources, I'm so thankful loll. yeaa suppose we all have considering that we are actually taking studying seriously now 😭

yeaa and I find it kind of sad that I don't have any 'chill' lessons anymore where I don't have to actually put effort in - and then right after GCSE's is A levels 🥲

yeah honestly, i feel like i really need to lock in and focus this year but at my school we have private study sessions, i'll probably have to work then but at least its a chill lesson yk

honestly the product making is not even worth that many marks - that entire section is 20 marks only. 80% of it is research, sketching and evaluation. It is really a test of how you can present and develop the idea more than how the product actually turns out.
As for chem, it's allways better to get a deeper understanding because if something new arises you have to be able to adapt your knowledge to fit that example, like all things. You can learn the spec content later on in revision but you have time now to get a deeper understanding of all of your subjects.

oooh private study lessons honestly sound cool lol - I think we get those in year 11, but they are more like free periods

ahh okay got it that sounds like more my thing loll
hmm yea probably best if it helps me understand, I'm doing the chemical changes module and over the summer I did research not involved in the spec to try and understand reactions regarding metals
