Trainee legal adviser

Is TLA role equal to training contract as a solicitor or pupillage as a pupil barrister?
I assume that you are referring to the TLA scheme operated by the Court Service. The TLA role does not result in qualification as a solicitor or a barrister. It equips a person to be the legal adviser to a magistrates' court (this what used to be called the clerk to the justices).

It is my understanding that the Trainee Legal Adviser role can result in a training contract (for anyone on the solicitor route) but does not constitute pupillage as the TLA role does not meet the BSB requirements for pupillage.

This was a paragraph from the job advert provided to candidates this year:

‘The training process is likely to take two years and is likely to coincide with the participation of a Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Training Contract. HMCTS is currently not able to offer Trainee Legal Advisers the opportunity to undertake pupillage.

It is a requirement, where a Trainee Legal Adviser is to undertake a SRA Training contract that he or she satisfies the requirements of the 6 month probationary period before a Law society Training contract will be offered.’

Is anyone working as a trainee legal advise in West Midlands? What are your working arrangements? What is the timing to start and finish the day?
