hey, im also going into year 13. i'd recommend asking your teachers about textbooks first, since some will give them for free. if not, this is what im using and its been really helpful. They have a book two, as well but not sure what topics are in that one.

My advice is to focus on question structures if your struggling with exams. For instance, using acronyms likes PET for 20 markers is godsend to make sure your hitting all the points. id also do past papers and practice questions. you can look up past papers in google just by typing your exam board and the subject i.e "aqa sociology past paper" . also, make sure you get good at those big marker questions, if you get those wrong it can bring your grade down by 1/2 grades. if you do understand the content well, you can just bullet point the answers instead of writing paragraphs when practicing to speed it up. just don't neglect revising the content because you will need names and studies to support your answers in exams. my credentials are an a* in my mock. really love seeing people being proactive about their grades, keep it up!!

I recommend THETEACHERSOCIOLOGY on Youtube. Her videos helped to get an A* on my mock exam. Her videos are great for exam structure (if you do AQA)

To memorise content, you should be doing active recall as this will ensure you remember the information. You could do this by using flashcards/blurting/mind maps (whatever you prefer). Also, if you want to add to your notes you could use Tutor2U on Youtube as I find their videos useful to add extra detail to my notes.

If you have any other questions I'd be happy to answer the best I can

you definitely don’t need to buy any text books, try different techniques but if you know the content id focus on planning exam questions. maybe get eqs online then plan in detail using notes, before attempting the question

Thank you so much for your help 🫶 the textbook you recommended i already have and i absolutely love it especially for education but I’m looking for a good sociology textbook on culture and identity—do you have any recommendations? Also, what’s the best way to revise sociology content to ensure that it’s in your head i understand the content i just struggle with remembering it. also what is an effective structure for answering sociology questions to achieve top grades? Is the structure usually an introduction, followed by 4-5 PEELE paragraphs, and then a conclusion? How should I write the conclusion? I apologize for bombarding you with questions, but I really want to get a good grade in sociology, and I appreciate you taking the time to help mee 🫶🫶

thank you so much, that was really helpful. i really struggle with research methods and methods in context especially with answering questions. i feel like education and culture is pretty straight forward when it comes to understanding the content but research method is quite confusing and i do find it hard especially with the layout in the web book. do you have any tips on that? 😅 thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to help me, i really appreicate it 🫶🫶

i really struggle with answering the questions because i feel like i write so much in my mocks my teacher had said that i got the content i was just waffling and there was no straight structure but i’m confused is every paragraph a different theory as in marxist, functionalist? or if it has an item, you write a paragraph on every point it makes? and with the conclusion do i give my own opinion or do i summarise everything i stated? is the structure the same for research methods? 😭 sorry for asking too many questions i missed a lot of days of school last year so i’m trying to relearn year 12 content 😭thank you so much for your help, i really do appreciate it 🫶

No worries

For research methods, I found it helped to know what I needed to know for each research method. So, for each research method you need to know an what the research method is, example of that research method, at least 2 strengths and 2 weaknesses. This helped me to know what to revise. If you're struggling because of the layout in a textbook, Tutor2U has videos on YouTube about research methods. Perhaps a different format might help you understand the content better?

For Methods in Context questions, THETEACHERSOCIOLOGY has multiple videos about how to get high marks in that question so I really recommend those.

I hope this helped. Do let me know if you have any other questions and I'll be happy to help

np! i personally don't do culture and identity, but i remember cgp books being good for gcse science days, this one has your topic.

to remember the content, i like to blurt about the topic - this is basically where you jot down everything you can remember about a topic on paper and then use a revision guide or past notes to fill in what you have missed with a different colour pen, this way i know what i am forgetting. i love it because you visually see your memory improving and what you already know. however, sometimes i feel the topics can be too big so i'll use flashcards to remember names + studies which helps a bunch. if you don't want to make flashcards, i'd recommend gizmo - you can find loads of public decks on your topic.
for structure, every question is different (if you want, lmk and i'll break the questions down with the structure i use). for 30 markers, the PEELE structure is good with an introduction and conclusion. conclusions are really simple, lots of people over-complicate them so don't worry. it's just a few lines (im talking like 3-4, i don't spend time on it because we care about showing the examiner how smart we are in the other paragraphs). it's basically just summarising what you've said and kind of coming to an endpoint. but don't put your opinion or take sides from a bias, examiners dont care bout that.
if there's anything i missed, or you would like something explained in more detail i'd be happy to! no need to apologise <3
