Neuropsychology in the UK is a specialism in clinical psychology, not medicine. To become a clinical neuropsychologist or study clinical neuropsychology, you would need a BPS accredited degree in psychology and typically clinical experience, which would then allow you to apply for a place on a DClinPsy programme. Only once you qualify as a clinical psychologist can you specialise in clinical neuropsychology. To become a research psychologist specialising in neuropsychology, you would need an undergraduate degree, usually in a related subject, such as psychology or neuroscience, to gain a place on a PhD programme of your choosing. The route to becoming either a research psychologist specialising in neuropsychology or a clinical neuropsychologist is long and requires a lot of further study. If you wish to study psychology at undergraduate level, typically you will need at least one science or science related A level. Some universities have GCSE requirements attached to the entry requirements. The bottom line is, your 5 in GCSE biology will not prevent you from going into neuropsychology, so long as your A level choices are appropriate for the degree you wish to study (e.g. psychology) and you meet the GCSE requirements for your university choices. If you don’t wish to study psychology at undergraduate level, to go into neuropsychology, you would either need a BPS accredited conversion degree in psychology (for the clinical pathway) or a degree in a closely related discipline that would be accepted by the PhD programmes you plan on applying to (for the research pathway). Some universities do offer more specialist psychology degrees, which would allow you to explore your interest in neuropsychology at an undergraduate level.
