The Student Room Group

nottingham, manchester, durham, warwick or exeter for law

Stuck between these for my last two applications for UCAS
What’s the student majority like? Is it a nice environment? Any stereotypes or negatives to be aware of?

I’ve heard Durham students can be really excluding to people who aren’t upper class- is this true?
Is this the case with Exeter?

If anyone has any honest experiences and pros and cons of them pls comment

It isn't about the majority. It is about you. Have you been to some of these to look around / meet the staff? That is what you need to do before you commit and make a choice based on your own preferences.

Good luck!

Hi. I'm a year 3 law student at UON, notts is a pretty boring place to stay for 3 years tbh but the teaching staffs are very kind and friendly, the thing i like he most about UoN is definitely the campus. What other unis have you chosen? I'd suggest your last two choices to be Durham >>> UoM / UoN > Warwick >> Exeter

Hello!
I had heard that Nottingham had great nightlife- is that not the case?
Do you feel there's a big difference in workload as a law student compared to other degrees?
Thank you by the way- how come you would put Exeter at the bottom- I dont have time left to visit these places annoyingly.

I was slightly worried about Durham also, as I read some awful things about the type of students there - but maybe that was just extreme cases- have you heard about this, like really snobby people haha?

Helloooo
You are right. Compared to Durham/Warwick, I believe notts is less boring, the nightlife is fantastic. And, yes, I notice a difference in workload between law students and my friends on other courses, e.g. education and chemistry. However, the workload is still manageable. You may still have time to travel during the holidays. I put Exeter last because I have a friend who studies law there; she said that it is not the best experience and that the professors are quite harsh on marking. Also, because she and I are international students from hong kong, exeter has a lower reputation than universities like UoM or Warwick among employers and solicitors firms in hk. im not sure if thats the same case for UK employers.

i also heard about the comments made about Durham students. I recommend visiting them during open days or events and taking a campus tour.
Wish you all the best with your UCAS application!
